Structure & Materials

Pool Structure

Our galvanized steel pool walls are pre-shaped at the factory to allow for custom design and ensure the most accurate pool shape possible, each and every time. The dual 90-degree folds for the top and bottom rails, and the double “L” wall brace system are similar to angle iron, with the ability to resist deformation when a load is applied by ground pressure, water pressure and frost. The compression locking system is superior to the welded system other builders utilize, as it does not destroy the integrity of the galvanized coating on the steel.

Gunite Pool Bottom

The pool walls are concrete in place using Gunite Concrete Mix. The two stage gunite pool bottom is a dense, small aggregate concrete mix that is pneumatically applied, or sprayed at high velocity against the surface. The force of the impact compacts the concrete to such an extent that there is zero slump. As a result, sprayed concrete significantly outperforms traditional concrete both in strength, bond and durability. Jameson Pools is proud to be one of the handful of pool builders in the area utilizing this method and material.

Pool Decks

Concrete decks are poured on a gravel base and embeds the top of the pool wall for increase deck support and a pool wall support. The deck is supported by steel braces around the pool perimeter. The concrete is reinforced with steel rebar and fiber mesh to increase the tensile strength and to reduce shrinkage cracks.

Plumbing

Our pool plumbing lines are PVC with a life expectancy of 100 years or more. They are encased in the concrete footing and all lines are pressure tested. Most pool sizes are installed with 1 skimmer, 3-to-4 return lines & jets. Main drains are installed on pools with a depth of 6’ or more to further improve circulation in the pool at depth.

Drainage

Our pools are backfilled with ¾ clear gravel which allows the ground water to flow to the dry well, also known as the sump-well. A sump pump is included with every pool to remove the water in the dry well when needed, such as after a heavy rainstorm.

Steel & Concrete vs. Fiberglass

Complete customization

With our galvanized steel and concrete pool structures, you are able to completely customize the shape, size and layout of your pool. You have control over your pool’s width, length, liner color and interior features. Fiberglass pools are prefabricated shapes, sizes and colors allowing limited selection. There is a select list of depths, colors and interior features.

Increased Lifespan

Our pools are built to last, using galvanized steel and reinforced concrete for a lifespan of 50 years or more. The vinyl liner typically lasts 12 to 15 years and can be easily replaced in just one day, allowing for colour and pattern changes.

While minor wrinkles may occur over the liner's lifespan, they are easily fixable. In contrast, fiberglass structures may suffer from cracks, osmosis (blisters), and topcoat discolouration as they age. Resolving these issues requires a longer resurfacing process compared to the simple replacement of a vinyl liner.

Additionally, fiberglass pools pose the risk of "popping" out of the ground due to freezing ground water. In such cases, repair is not possible, necessitating complete removal and replacement. At Jameson Pools, we've addressed these concerns by replacing two fiberglass pools with our durable steel and vinyl liner pools, ensuring our clients enjoy long-lasting and reliable pool solutions.
